The Cabernet Extravaganza
Probably the best Cab pack we've ever made and definitely the best Coonawarra pack.
1 bottle of Penley's flagship Helios Cabernet here - rich, complex and powerful... a flaghip Cab pointed 97 by Halliday (same score he gave the previous 2 winners of his annual Cabernet Challenge).
4 bottles of Leconfield's Reserve Cabernets - this scored 96 from Halliday, and as far as we can make out, every wine writer who has reviewed it so far. Pristine fruit, black tea, awesome length.
4 bottles of Penley Estate's Chertsey Cab, Merlot, Cab Franc Blend. 95 from Halliday who said 'This shows the spectrum of fruit that's possible in these blends. Beginning with Gala apple skin, cranberry, fig hearts and moving into kirsch and plum. Some star anise and five-spice with beautifully mellow tannins. Acidity echoes right till the end and the wine feels very comfortable in its own skin, not stitched together but grown and raised together'.
... and 4 bottles of Murray Street's perfectly cellared red label 2018 Cab - medium bodied with lovely flavour and fine tannins to finish.

97 points from James Halliday (incidentally this is the same score the last 2 winners of the Halliday Annual Cabernet Challenge received).
This is luxe, bounteous and exceptionally powerful. Double decant a few hours before drinking, or drink it over several days and watch it evolve.
Black tea, cedar, anise, mulberry, violet, black liquorice and masses of silky mouthcoating tannins and a real finesse to the palate shape. Symphonic fruit which builds to a mighty crescendo.
A first release Reserve Cabernets from Leconfield. Huon Hooks gave it 97 points, marking this as one of the finest reds he's reviewed in the last year.
Kim Brebach wrote, 'The best red I’ve tasted in the last 6 months'. - 96pts
This blend sees Leconfield's finest Cab Sauv co-fermented with Merlot and Cab Franc, resulting in the perfectly harmonious integration of flavours. Deep in colour; the nose is fresh, and bright, offering dark fruit aromas, cedar, cigar box and dark chocolate. It balances richness with elegance beautifully and finishes with perfectly modulated fine tannins. Exceptional already, and has a long future ahead of it.
Savoury, complex and elegant, yet sweetly and intensely fruited - so beautifully balanced that it is drinking wonderfully already. Red apple, cranberry, black tea, plums and liquorice. Finished with whisper fine tannins. Some Cab family blends can look a bit 'Bride of Frankenstein' at least for their first few years in bottle. This is flawless.
