Why We Chose This Wine

An excellent combo of Langhorne Creek Cab and McLaren Vale Grenache here. Just a brief time on skins to give it that 'Provence Rosé' colouring and the rest is all vibrant aromatics and fruit forwardness. Raspberry and watermelon dominate here complexed with a hint of jalapeño from the Cabernet. Bloody good.

Phil Manser has a long history in the wine industry championing boutique labels from all over Australia and the world. He has teamed up with his brother, Kevin, and father, Bernie, and now own and operate a vineyard near Kuitpo just a stone’s throw from McLaren Vale. This vineyard was first established by Tim James, formerly of Hardys and Wirra Wirra, and was planted to four different clones of Shiraz planted randomly throughout the vineyard. A time honoured practice from the old world designed to guarantee consistency and complexity from year to year. Fruit from this vineyard has made its way to numerous award-winning wines from several top tier producers.

Around 50km southeast of Adelaide, and just north of Lake Alexandrina, Langhorne Creek is one of the oldest vineyard regions in South Australia. The climate is often cool, with southerly winds coming in from the ocean and blowing straight across Lake Alexandrina. Like most South Australian regions, the heat will kick in when the wind comes down from the north in summer, but there are intermittent and not as constant as they are up north in the Barossa. Soils are deep, sandy loams, regularly flooded in winter by diverting the nearby Bremer River into the vineyards. This all adds up to vigorous vines with generous canopies, and the classic Langhorne Creek style of red – soft and fragrant, very drinkable when young.
