6 eminently gluggable Grenache and blends thereof for your palate’s pursuance. We are massive Grenache nutters here at winedirect.com.au (sure the word Grenache might be redundant). Here’s an article from our wine talk section in which we wrote on the rise, demise, repurposing and resurrection of Grenache in this country and acknowledgement that McLaren Vale and Barossa produce many of the best examples in the world.
BTW this pack includes Heirloom’s Alcala Grenache which was runner up in the Halliday Grenache challenge from 134 entries... just saying!
Heirloom Alcala Grenache 2019
2 x Trophies, 2 x Gold Medals, 96pts McLaren Vale Wine Show, 96pts Halliday Grenache Challenge
Selected from Heirloom’s best McLaren Vale vineyard. We saw musk, cherries, earthiness, black pepper, blackberries and more. A delicious, complete, complex yet playful Grenache and clearly one of Australia’s best.
Richard Hamilton Marion Grenache 2019
95pts Kim Brebach
Richard Hamilton are all guns blazing for Grenache, having three wines now which are 100% Grenache or Grenache dominant. This one is young and lovely, with notes of tarragon, fennel and a brooding ferrous-ness which, as it breathes and opens, reveals plenty of delicious cherries. It is light to midweight with plenty of acidity. Lip smacking drinking over the next 5 years.
Curtis Limited Grenache 2016
96pts Sam Kim, 94pts James Halliday, 92pts Kim Brebach
Superbly fine boned and taut yet generously fruited McLaren Vale Grenache. Definitely give it a rip in a decanter before you get into it. There’s a lot of blue fruit here, along with spice and a hint of confection and exceptional length. This is properly classy kit which we reckon will improve with cellaring for 10-15 years, such is its structure and power of fruit.
Yaldara Reserve GSM 2015
92pts James Halliday, 91pts Kim Brebach
Lots of red and blue fruit purity here. There’s blue fruit and confectionery from the Grenache, along with brooding darkness and grunt from the Mataro. Smoke, olive and spice to boot and a fresh, finely tannic finish.
Thorn Clarke Barossa Grenache Shiraz 2017
A medium-bodied Grenache Shiraz blend with lots of lively aromas of blue fruits and musk ceding to darker fruits, cedar and fine tannins. This opens up beautifully over several hours and will serve you very, very well over the next 4-6 years.
XO Shiraz Grenache 2018
91pts James Halliday
Tiny production as is the norm at XO Wines. Concentrated and densely flavoured with plums, blackberries, raspberries and spice. Full-bodied, brooding and worthy of cellaring. Exceptional. Only 106 dozen produced.
