Leconfield McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018

This is a full bodied beast offering rich fruit, peppers, plums, fine grained French oak and fine tannins. It offers both richness and structure, deep fruit and elegance. It’s definitely at home in the company of a good piece of red meat served rare as you dare but will also work well with a plate of antipasto,

Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

From the winery:

The inherent fruit vibrancy of the wine comes from our 'Farm Block'. A portion of the wine was barrel fermented to integrate the fruit and oak, and an intense component of Coonawarra Shiraz was added on final blending. Prior to bottling, the wine received a traditional fining with egg white to aid clarification and soften the tannins. The fruit, sourced fruit from our estate vineyards, has been selected to give the depth for which this wine is renowned.

Customer Reviews

It’ll be another good red given more time.

Leconfield McLaren Vale Shiraz 2017 – Oh, so young! It’s less forbidding than I expected, so perhaps 2017 made softer reds than 2016. Still, it opened up a lot over a couple of days. The fruit is intense and seductive as usual, the French oak seamless, the tannins are ripe and fine-grained. It’ll be another good red given more time. 94++ points.

My favourite

My favourite in this trio. Yes I know what you’re going to say: I’m not a huge fan of Shiraz, but this rich, sumptuous red has charms that are hard to resist. It’s seamless, perfect pitch, it’s big but everything is in balance, it’s soft as a satin pillow, and got better over several days in the open bottle. 96 points. Wine of the Week.
