Leconfield Coonawarra Chardonnay 2017

Lots of peach and almond meal here. Quality French oak too and plenty of the cheesy creamy quality which comes from lees stirring while the wine is in barrel. Good acid too. Has the zip and cut to match most foods now. As it ages it should become more textured and buttery.

Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

The Leconfield Chardonnay vines are all 30+ years old. Fine grained French Dargaud and Jaegle oak is used here, very fine grained and elegant, complimening the aroma of this fruit dominant style. Fine, tight and elegant palate with mid palate roundness finishing with a clean zesty acidity. After cold settling, the wine was inoculated with yeast and a portion was immediately run into oak for barrel fermentation with initial frequent battonage during fermentation and less frequent lees stirring as the wine matured. A second portion was fermented using its indigenous yeast. The wine was allowed to undergo partial malo-lactic fermentation while on yeast lees.
