Kilikanoon Meymans Shiraz 2017

Rich velvety fruits here as cherry morphs with chocolate, loose leaf black tea and spices. Tannins are firm on the finish, giving this excellent length and persistence. Delicious and textural, great on its own or with a big plate of protein.

Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

It’s hard to believe how far and fast Kilikanoon has risen since being established in 1997 with 14 acres of vines. In 2002 Kilikanoon won 6 of the 7 available Trophies at the Clare Valley wine show. In 2013 James Halliday named Kilikanoon as his winery of the year. Today Kilikanoon has over 700 acres of vines, and sources additional fruit from some of the best growers in the Barossa Valley, Clare Valley and McLaren Vale.

Textbook Shiraz from the underrated Clare Valley.

Kilikanoon Meymans Shiraz 2017 - The Meymans block contributes fruit to the better-known Covenant Shiraz, but they clearly left some of the best behind. This is a ripper Shiraz, choc-full of fruits and spices, which almost leap out of the glass with excitement, so much drive here, and rich pickings, all well-contained and well-structured. The wine really opened up over a couple of days, and became very hard to put down. Textbook Shiraz from the underrated Clare Valley. 96+ points.

This red demonstrates the quality of Clare Shiraz.

Kilikanoon Meymans Shiraz 2015 – Meymans is a single vineyard among the Kilikanoon holdings. With many wines in this price range, it’s hard to see where the extra dollars went but not here: the fruit is dark and sumptuous, opulent almost, rich and round and profound. The oak adds a very fine polish, and the fine tannin backbone keeps it all nice and tidy. This red demonstrates the quality of Clare Shiraz. 95+ points. BUY.
