The Martins has maintained the exceptionally high standard it set with the 2018 vintage. Fruits are blacks and blues, with blueberries, blackberries, olive tapenade, cedar and vanilla populating a powerful and long palate. The tannins are polished, waxy and plentiful. This is thrilling! It’s old-school but perfectly balanced. ‘Tis packed with uber ripe, suppurating black fruits, dark cherry, compote, notes of furniture polish and spice, black pepper, chocolate, tobacco, and leather. The richness is tamed with good acidity, providing a backbone for all that expressiveness to hang on to and in so doing, show to best effect. Stunning! Three magical reds on offer in this superb value pack. First up, sense filling voluptuousness from Kilikanoon, with rich velvety fruit morphing into black tea and spices. Next stop, a stunning 96pt old-school but perfectly balanced Shiraz from Pasha packed with uber ripe, suppurating black fruits, dark cherry, compote, notes of furniture polish and spice, black pepper, chocolate, tobacco, and leather. Finally, Martins 97 point Limited Shiraz with its relatively low alcohol and restrained American oak, yet stunning intensity of blue and black fruits with absolutely no overripe characters. It is neither the heaving, jammy and over oaked behemoth of old, nor the modern, perfumed pretty which is in favour at the mo. It is simply delicious.
