Just Exceptional Grenache v4.0

This is the 4th reworking of our most successful Grenache pack ever. Each successive version has outsold the last and we reckon v4.0 will follow that trend. This version featured Heirloom's world class Alcala Grenache, incredible old vine goodness from Lone Palm and Curtis, Lienert Brother's delicate yet utterly compelling multi clonal beauty and Curator's Single Barrel Grenache. Only 300 bottles of this magic Grenache were made, we snaffled just over half of them!

We only got 96 bottles sadly, but then only 500 were made so I guess we should consider ourselves lucky! From a tiny. 100 yo vineyard, cool ferment, foot stomped into old French oak for just over a year. Satsuma plum fruits with raspberry and Chinese 5 spice, licorice, ginger, and more.

A relatively big and rich Grenache offering red fruits, woodsmoke and lavender on the nose. The palate is full, loaded with blackberries, red fruits, savoury aspects and herbs. Needs decanting or cellaring.

The Lienert’s have been farming in the Barossa for 150 years and decided to add some vines to their property about 20 years ago. The first fruit from 2004 and 2005 vintages went straight to the pool room, aka into Penfold’s St Henri. Funnily enough they then planted a lot more vines and introduced many more clonal variations of Shiraz and Grenache. This Grenache is a brilliant amalgam of aromatics and pristine fruit, thanks to the careful clonal selection and extensive blending trials undertaken before settling on the final ‘just right blend’. Whilst called Sieben Klon (Seven Clones) the Grenache actually includes 8 separate clones. This vintage is a little lighter, yet more aromatically lifted than the 21 vintage. It’s a cracker.

Produced from 120-year-old Grenache bush vines and 80 year old Shiraz vines. The fruit is cold soaked for 14 days before a slow ferment. It is then pressed into new and 2 year old oak where it is allowed to mature 18 months. The resulting wine is deep and complex with black fruits, vanilla, plenty of cedar and spice leading to a long, generous and finely tannic finish.

New World take on an Old World fave. Still showing the signature Grenache trademarks on the nose with aromatic dark raspberries and red cherries, you might even find a little aniseed and other spice notes once it has had some time to open up. The palate offers an array of juicy red berry fruits and oh so subtle hints of vanilla with a touch of toasted cocoa even, little gifts given from the French Oak. Slightly grippy tannin to finish, so that wonderful fruit doesn't slide past you too quickly. Have a bit of fun and chill slightly in the warmer months!

Serious, old vines Grenache this- with a degree of intensity you don’t always find in Grenache. As with the incredible first vintage which sold out in just a few months, the 22 is bolstered with the inclusion of some powerful, low yielding, old vine Shiraz. The tannins are plentiful and savoury, the fruits black, flecked with reds and tightly coiled. Needs decanting, Officially awesome!

Sourced from 3 incredible vineyards, one of which is 150 years of age, this exceptional Grenache is then fermented in a mix of ceramic eggs and large format French oak foudres. Lifted red fruit and florals pass the baton to a palate offering raspberries, cranberries and pomegranate. The fruit intensity is excellent and well matched by firm acidity. The finish comes slowly, traversing as it does a lengthy pathway of fine tannins.
