Why We Chose This Wine

A superb Nero offering fragrant red and blue fruits. The medium-bodied, vibrant palate conjures blueberries, violets, maraschino cherry, and pepper. A lick of cedar and the loveliest of fine tannins provide the intense fruit with a soft landing, striking a perfect balance between energetic brightness and savoury complexity. This is a beautifully structured, highly expressive drop.

In 1998, Jeff and Joan Mason inherited an ostrich farm. Instead of burying their heads in the sand, they cleared the land and planted Shiraz with the intention of brewing a Mason jar or two of wine—just enough to supply the family. Turns out, there was more than they needed, and the J&J brand was born.

Under their flagship Rivers Lane label, they produce 100% organic, estate-grown Shiraz. Under the Boots Hill label, they free-range alternative varietals from other premium McLaren Vale producers, making superb Nero d'Avola and Fiano, amongst other things.
