Finniss River Cabernet Sauvignon 2017

Special Price $20.00 Regular Price $25.00
Deep dark and brooding, this Cab offers up blackcurrants, dark chocolate and superfine tannins. Delicious now but should last a decade if you store it somewhere nice and cool.

Finniss River is part of the Fleurieu Peninsula. It is quite close to McLaren Vale and also runs alongside the south-eastern shoulder of the Adelaide Hills. Climatically it is a little cooler than the McLaren Vale, bring hot during the middle of the day but quite cool in the evening as the Southern Ocean sends it cold air in. As a result the growing cycle is longer than most other regions in Australia which gives the region the ability to present fruit with exceptional concentration, colour, brightness and complexity. The Finniss River vineyard was originally established by the Hickinbotham family and has supplied fruit to Orlando for 19 consecutive vintages. They use sheep to mow their lawns and practice mimimal chemical spraying. The new owners made some very good wines from the 14 vintage but have really hit their straps with the exceptional new release 2015’s. The 16’s – even better.

Proud Parents

Cabernet Sauvignon was born in the 17th century in an accidental parenting mix-up and is the spawn of a Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc entanglement which occurred in south western France. (Which reminds of a joke where a Chihuahua and a Pug walked out a bar one day..) Immediately its popularity amongst winemakers increased as its
