An old school, full tilt Shiraz which spent a couple of years in new and old French oak. Plenty of rich fruit here, with blackberries, plum, chocolate, and spice all on the go. The palate weight is significant, the tannins softening thanks to the wine's age. The bit in a Venn diagram where this wine, your face, and a prosciutto pizza overlap might be titled ‘happiness’.

Eight at the gate is a family affair, owned and managed by sisters Jane Richards and Claire Davies. The ‘eight’ references their 8 kids, oft found hanging off a gate in or near the vineyard in the early days. The Vineyard is large at well over 100 acres in the Wratonbully sub-region and the fruit is in high demand from wineries in the region. They keep a very small quantity of the best fruit for themselves and turn out exceptional wines, like the 2019 Family Selection Chardonnay, which was recently awarded the trophy for best Chardonnay and best white wine at the Limestone Coast Wine Show.
