Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

Ever take a look at your cellar and feel like there’s something missing? Try this on for size, with half a dozen cracking alternatives to the usual Shiraz or Cab options. Geoff Hardy’s Montepulciano is fragrant and seductive, with aromas of black cherry and plum. In this batch, he’s using grapes from the Limestone Coast. Mr. Riggs’ Monte is big, with cherries, smoked meats and spice. Give this one plenty of air and pair it up with something beefy for good results. Curtis Limited Grenache from McLaren Vale is delicious with confected blue berry fruits, spice and softened tannins. Give it a decent decant prior to serving to let that fruit sing. A couple of great varietals from Massena in the Barossa Valley with scores of 91 and 94 from Halliday. Their Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) is wild fermented and unfiltered. It’s youthful and fresh with Morello cherries, chocolate and a good line of acid. Saperavi originates from Georgia, south of the Ukraine. Typically deep in flavour and excellent for ageing, Massena’s edition is brooding with cherries, blackstrap, blackberries, tar and smoky elements. A wine to try for all red lovers. Zonte’s Canto di Lago (song of the lake) is a great triple gold Italian blend of Sangiovese, Barbera and Lagrein. Rich red fruits are here with cedar spice and light tannins, making a great addition to antipasto or pizza. Fire up your disco with these stunning alternate varietals.
