Head south from Adelaide for 45 minutes along the coastline and you’ll hit the McLaren Vale wine region, which boasts stunning natural beauty, a Mediterranean climate, and some incredibly talented winemakers. Given that the region accounts for a small percentage of Australia’s total wine production and exports, it certainly punches above its weight in terms of quality, and we reckon the wines coming out of this region are some of the best in the country.

These may be the oldest, still bearing chenin blanc vines in Australia. The wine launches with notes of struck match, reflective of the barrel work done with this wine in French oak. The palate is textural, offering red fruits, lemon, ginger, orange blossom with a wonderfully creamy aspect, with some cedary grain from the oak. Acid is plentiful, the finish long and mineral. The fruit is cold soaked for 14 days before a slow ferment. It is then pressed into new and 2 year old oak where it is allowed to mature 18 months.
