White florals and lime here along with a whiff of jasmine. Mouthwatering acidity too, giving backbone and length - lean, as you'd expect from a brilliant Clare Riesling but not bony - meaning you don't need to cellar this one to enjoy it. That said, it will improve for up to a decade.
A 5 star James Halliday rated winery, Claymore wines began in 1997 with just a tiny amount of Grenache and Riesling but have flourished into one of Clare Valley’s best known producers. They signed a 3-year contract in 2015 with English Football giants Liverpool, much to the dismay of our Manchester United tasting panel member Dan. Even Dan, though, cannot let his football bias affect how truly great the Claymore wines are! Their labels are inspired by some of the great music of the modern times, from Pink Floyd to Prince to The Verve and even a little Stevie Wonder. All in all, fantastic wines with an edgy feel. Whether you want to open a bottle and belt out a riff, or warm up the vocals and sing “you’ll never walk alone,” Claymore have you covered!

Can't have party food without something to drink - can we?? Good party food is definitely bubbles but bubbles is such a cop-out. Let's make it a little more interesting and go with a deliciously juicy Riesling.
This week I am sipping on a Semillon from First Creek in the Hunter Valley. Semillon is a thing of beauty really. Drunk young it's fresh with juicy acidity, apple, pear, and loads of bright citrus notes. Kept in the cellar and it will reward you in 5, 10, and 20 years. As it develops it gets (I think) a little grassy, the acidity is less prominent and notes of honey start to form. Pick this up from winedirect.com.au at a bargain of $22 a bottle and the only thing you will complain about is having not bought 6-12 bottles!

The higher altitude, compared to other wine regions in South Australia, ensures cool nights even during the heat of summer allowing the fruit to ripen more evenly and slowly. Soil is a mix of red to brown-grey over basement rock.
