We've recently been enjoying the Cabaret Festival here in Adelaide so we thought we’d join in with our own festival... of the Cabernet variety. Featuring the stunning Glenlofty 2012, proudly sporting 93 points and 3 Gold Medals, the 'got any blacker?' 2013 Paringa Cabernet and the Grant Burge’s 2015 Cab Shiraz and double gold winner, the Geoff Hardy Meritage Cabernet blend. The festivities don’t stop there, we’ve got something for the Shiraz fans in Thorn Clarke's Milton Park 2014 and the ever popular Curtis Family Vineyards McLaren Vale Shiraz. One ticket: twelve bottles of top shelf entertainment.

Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

From the Pyrenees region in Victoria, Glenlofty's single vineyard beauty offers loads of dark fruit and violets, with silky tannins - It really opens beautifully too, if you can manage to give it the chance - it’s a definite favourite of ours. The Paringa 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon is black in colour and filled with blackberries and blackcurrants - sensing a theme? Spice wise, there’s tobacco and white pepper making it a really great quaffer. Speaking of everyday favourites, we’ve also got Grant Burge’s GB 51 Cab Shiraz which shows shades of blue and black fruits served up on velvety French and American oak whilst still reminiscent of Grant’s wines which are so familiar to many Aussies. The term ‘Meritage’ refers to wines in the Bordeaux style which contain some or all of the Cabernet family - Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc. This particular wine from Geoff Hardy contains Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot giving us plums and plenty of spice on the nose, with the palate showing the varietal complexity, hinting at cherry, cedar and fine tannins. At the end of the day though, what winter festival would be complete without Shiraz? Here we have the Thorn Clarke Milton Park Shiraz and the Curtis Cavaliere Shiraz. Both wines showing exceptional fruit, spice and oak.
