Bird in Hand Merlot 2016

Full bodied Merlot packed with tightly packed blue and black fruits, tobacco, spice and fine tannins. Like a Cabernet that’s taken the edge off a bit. An absolute joy to drink and will no doubt age gracefully. Even fans of the film Sideways will love this one.

Allow us to prattle on a little more about this...

Bird in Hand was established in 1997 when viticulturist and winemaker Andrew Nugent left Tatachilla and planted the family vineyard at Woodside in the Adelaide Hills near the historic goldmine of the same name. Along with another vineyard in the notable Clare region, the great fruit and skilled work of this producer come together in a stellar range of wines. Ably assisted by Master of Wine, Kym Milne as Winemaker, the Nugents produce consistently exceptional wines.

Customer Reviews

Serious Merlot, nothing soft or flabby about it.

Bird in Hand Merlot 2016 – Serious Merlot, nothing soft or flabby about it. Blue fruits, not plums. It means business, Pomerol clearly in the winemaker’s sights. The wine is firm, dark and dense, it has depth and structure, but it lacks seductive Merlot fruit. 92 points.
