Beautiful Barossa

Beautiful Barossa

It’s genuinely difficult to put into words just how excited the tasting panel is to be offering this bundle.

We’ve managed to secure an allocation of the superb Murray Street wines — 3 of which feature in this dozen. Every time we offer Murray Street, the wines disappear in a flash, and with very good reason. They are exceptional Barossa reds, and at 7 and 8 years of age, these releases are entering a beautiful drinking window: still loaded with vibrant primary fruit, but beginning to soften and unfurl beautifully. Magnificent drinking now, and easily capable of another decade in cellar.

The Hewitson Ungrafted is another absolute standout. In fact, two customers independently commented that it was one of the best wines they’d had in a very long time. Fair call.

Lone Palm’s Hillside remains one of our most popular wines year after year — old vines, dark fruit, richness, density and genuine class.

And then there’s the Greenock Estate Museum Release Shiraz. Monumental Barossa. Massive depth, concentration and power, yet still polished. We actually opened this alongside a Shiraz from an iconic Barossa winery a few days earlier and, frankly, this was the MUCH better wine.

The value here is absurd.

    Wines In This Pack
    Barossa Valley, SA
96pts Ray Jordan, 96pts Sam Kim, 96pts Vino Masters

Big, bold, and packed with flavour… but with a layer of polish that keeps everything in check. The nose is classic Barossa: ripe plum and blackberry, a lick of licorice, mocha, coffee grounds, and a lifted, perfumed edge that gives it real appeal. The palate delivers in spades. Dense, concentrated fruit wrapped around fine oak, with plush texture and serious generosity. Think dark plum, black cherry, a touch of savoury spice, and a rich dark chocolate finish that lingers. This is a cracking example of a strong Barossa vintage— opulent, satisfying, and built for lovers of full-bodied reds.

Another delicious release of Hillside Shiraz from low yielding vineyards in Marananga, old vines from Stonewell, planted to the R6 and 1654 clones. There’s old vine fruit from Greenock, the vines so old that the clonal selection is unknown. Matured in a combination of new French and older American oak, this is a stunning Barossa Shiraz offering black fruits, blue fruits, blackberries, coffee, graphite, chocolate, minerals, liquorice, spice, blueberries, cedar and firm tannins.

94pts Sam Kim, 91pts James Halliday

A complex beast this, bolstered with 30% new French oak. Blackberries, black cherry, plum, spice and dark chocolate here, plus a note of tobacco. Plenty of fine tannins to finish. Drink any time over the next decade.

    Barossa Valley, SA
    93pts Sam Kim

This is classic, generous Barossa Cab with perfectly balanced yet unforced acidity underpinning a palate saturated with dark fruits including plum and blackberries.

In spite of its age, this is worth decanting as it opens up over several hours, so should continue to improve with additional time in bottle too.

Drink anytime over the next decade or so. .

A joy to drink and just entering its ideal drinking window now at 7 years of age. Decanting works wonders. Mostly French oak here which brings subtle cedar to the plums, dark chocolate, liquorice and spice of this beautifully put together wine.

96pts Sam Kim, 95pts Ray Jordan, 95pts Ken Gargett

This is sourced entirely from old, estate grown, ungrafted Barossa vines. The fruit from these gnarly old vines is handpicked before whole bunch fermentation in open fermenters, then pressed into French oak where it spends 15 months. It has an elegant, fragrant nose with plenty of spice and perfume. The palate is bright, but underscored with old vine, black fruited gravitas. Exceptional.
