Shiraz & Alternatives: A Mythical Baker's Dozen

You've been asking for packs with a bit more variety - we heard ya and made one which went gangbusters. So here's another amazing selection... plus we've even managed to include an incredible 13th bottle in the shape of Dowie Doole's $90 a bottle Architect Cabernet...

Here's something a little different, a pack with Cab, Tempranillo, Sangio, and Shiraz...

You'll be getting 2 bottles apiece of 2 alternative Mclaren Vale/Fleurieu Peninsula reds from Colab and Bloom, made by Mike Farmilo who used to make Penfolds Grange - their exquisite Sangiovese and Tempranillo. These are both award winners with reviews akin to the following, (from Kim Brebach for the Sangiovese) "What a lovely surprise! OK, it’s not Brunello di Montalcino, but it’s a great bistro red that goes really well with tomatoes, olives, smoked meats, pork sausages, tasty cheeses and heaps more. Light on its feet, elegant even, but big on flavour. Love this! 94 points. A Must Try Red".

You'll also be getting a couple of bottles of the magical $75 a bottle Angas King 2017 Reserve Shiraz, which was our biggest selling wine in March, and 2 of Red Deer's 95 point, old vine Shiraz.

To seal the deal, a bottle of Dowie Doole's stunning $90 a bottle flagship 'Architect' Cabernet.

    Wines In This Pack
    Clare Valley, SA
94pts Wine Pilot, 95pts Sam Kim
Rich, black, dark, deep, powerfully fruited and structured with a decent lick of oak. Old school but drinking beautifully thanks to its age. Blackcurrant, black olives, bay leaf, dark chocolate, zesty acidity and cedary oak make this a powerful pleasure right now. Will continue to improve tho, for at least a decade.
    Fleurieu Peninsula, SA
94pts Kim Brebach, 93pts Sam Kim
A stunningly complex Sangio which opens up over 24 hours. So this one is definitely worth decanting! Red fruits, wood smoke, chalky tannins, rhubarb, blue fruits, tarragon, thyme and graphite. A stunning accompaniment to a meat and cheese plate, prosciutto pizza and most tapas.
    Adelaide Hills, SA
    Gold Medal, 93pts Sam Kim
A single vineyard temp from and highly regarded Macclesfield Vineyard. Medium-bodied with an emphasis on red fruits, violets, cherry, hints of cola, and spice. Length is good, perfect with Tapas.
    Langhorne Creek, SA
95pts Kim Brebach, 93pts Sam Kim
An exceptional, brightly, and intensely fruited medium-bodied Shiraz sourced from 50-year-old Langhorne Creek vines. Bold red and black fruits are bolstered by good acidity. The wine is finished with vanilla, spindles of oak, and fine tannins.
    McLaren Vale, SA
96pts Kim Brebach, 94pts Sam Kim
Only tiny quantities are made of this wine, which is the product of the finest of Dowie Doole's A-grade Cabernet fruit from each vintage. '21 being an incredible vintage has elevated this even further. The previous vintage picked up 96 points from Kim Brebach who said, "Decades ago, I had the privilege of tasting a group of Barolos and Barbarescos made by Giovanni Gaia. These wines had layers of deep flavour, ranging from smoked meats and old leather to licorice, gravel dust and tar. The Dowie Doole Architect reminded me of those wines because it had some of those characters, even if the expression was more restrained. Give it time, and I think you’ll be richly rewarded. If the price seems steep, keep in mind that a Barbaresco from Gaia will set you back $600." The '21 is better again than the exceptional 2019 vintage, and represents a barrel selection chosen from only A-grade parcels from the old, dry-grown Blewitt Springs vineyard. There's black fruits, licorice, richness, density and layers. A stunning wine that will live for a very long time
