A Zeitgeist of Grenache

Grenache might be suddenly fashionable but it ain’t faddish. We prefer to think of it as being zeitgeisty... reflective of the ‘spirit of the age’ where we increasingly look towards bevvies that offer excellent fruit intensity and precision in an approachable, medium-bodied setting. This lot are delicious.

    A Zeitgeist of Grenache

We bloody love Grenache. Is it recently popular? Sure. Faddish? Not at all. It is just one of the best things you can put in your head. Here are 4 excellent Grenache and a couple of mighty fine Grenache dominant blends...

    Wines In This Pack
    2 x Curtis Limited Grenache 2020 (RRP $100.00)
    McLaren Vale, SA
96pts Kim Brebach, 96pts Sam Kim
Generously fruited and well-structured Grenache made from 100-year-old vines. Plenty of black and blue fruits, plenty of cedar, and fine tannins. Length and intensity are excellent.
    McLaren Vale, SA
95pts Kim Brebach, 95pts Decanter World Wine Awards
Selected from Heirloom’s best McLaren Vale vineyard. We saw musk, plum skin, spice, cherries, earthiness, Earl Grey tea, blackberry and black pepper. A sense enveloping and incredibly beguiling wine finished with a dusting of fine powdery tannins. Magical.
    McLaren Vale, SA
    94pts Sam Kim
Vine Sean is Celtic for old vines. This is a single vineyard, old vine Grenache offering red fruits of raspberry and redcurrant, plus musk, spice and fine tannins. This is the best Vine Sean we have seen to date.
    2 x Haselgrove 'Switch' GSM 2018 (RRP $40.00)
    McLaren Vale, SA
94pts Sam Kim, 93pts Wine Showcase Magazine, 92pts James Halliday
This is a big wine by GSM standards and brooding to boot. There’s lots of dark fruit, swirls of spice and earth, chocolate and plums. It is superbly succulent, lithe relative to its impressive fruit weight and an each way bet for necking now or in 10 years time.
    Barossa Valley, SA
95pts Kim Brebach, 94pts Sam Kim
A truly beautiful and fruit driven blend of Grenache, Mataro and Shiraz. The Grenache here brings spice, confected notes, raspberries, rhubarb and sour cherry. The Mataro offers chocolate, brooding brambles and other slightly angry things sourced from dungeons deep. The Shiraz brings blue and black fruits, chocolate and fine, fine tannins. It’s a mad mélange this, one we’ll tip our hat to, whilst asking for it to be filled.
    McLaren Vale, SA
93pts Kim Brebach, 92pts Sam Kim, 92pts James Halliday
From old bush vines planted in 1947. Dry grown, hand pruned and picked, these vines produce exceptionally concentrated fruit. White pepper, kirsch and cherries in a medium bodied yet muscular and fruit intense setting. Plenty of fine tannins to finish. Drink now or cellar for 5-8 years.
