A Brilliant Baker's Doz of Mixed Marvels

The last mixed doz we put out sold pretty well so we thought we’d best conjure another one. Save over 65% on this magical mixed doz with 6 trophies, 17 gold medals and more... A pretty flash mixed doz this, bejewelled with half a dozen trophies, a stack of top golds, 17 gold medals and which is storied with plenty of effusive words from worthy wine scribes. There’s Wicks trophy-winning sparkling which is made utilising the time-honoured ‘methode champenoise’. This means it is aged on lees in bottle to build complexity and depth of flavour. Costs a lot of both money and time to produce sparkling this way but the results in this instance are undeniable. See also, Turkey Flat’s multiple trophy-winning Rosé and a twin gold-winning Adelaide Hill Sauv Blanc. On the red front, a couple of superb old vine McLaren Grenache, 2 brilliant Cabernet (from the Coonawarra and Langhorne Creek), and five awesome Shiraz from the Barossa, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. Includes, for the first time ever in a Winedirect.com.au pack, the exceptional Stonehouse Neldner Old Vine Shiraz. This $150 a bottle Barossa powerhouse has not yet been entered in a show but the first review is in from Kim Brebach who said ‘...’big red with wonderful depth of fruit and tremendous concentration of flavour...’ and scored it a massive 97 points.

    Wines In This Pack
    Adelaide Hills, SA
94pts Kim Brebach, Gold, Top Gold and Trophy - Melbourne Royal Wine Show
Truly a modern classic, this Adelaide Hills Sparkling is all about high quality fruit spending 4 years on lees to develop texture and complexity. There’s a full, rich mouthfeel and texture, and delicate toasty notes of warm honey, cumquat, truffle and tarragon underpinned by hints of pear and ginger. The length an intensity are fantastic.
    McLaren Vale, SA
Gold Medal, 97pts Sam Kim, 94pts James Halliday, 95pts The Real Review, 95pts Bob Campbell
This is unequivocally an even better edition of the Martin’s than we have seen previously, which is perhaps no surprise given it is a product of the 2018 vintage. Again, we see relatively low alcohol for a big Aussie red which, perhaps counterintuitively, allows the wine to appear as more fruit dense and concentrated than it might if it were half a degree or a full degree more ‘potent’. Fruits are blacks and blues, depth and length are superb, cedar and vanilla are a perfumed accompaniment to the fruit rich nose, and the tannins, polished, waxy and plentiful. The overall package, outstanding!
    Barossa Valley, SA
97pts Kim Brebach, 97pts Sam Kim
Handpicked grapes from an 80-year-old contoured vineyard in Gomersal. Long slow fermentation including 10% whole bunch over 10 days before basket pressing into 30% new French and 70% older oak. A spicy and brightly fruited nose leads to a palate with exceptional concentration and structure. Red fruits, black fruits, compote, coffee grounds, plum, star anise, cocoa powder, black tea and fine, powdery tannins to finish. Really beautifully balanced.
    McLaren Vale, SA
95pts Huon Hooke, 95pts Sam Kim, 94pts Kim Brebach, 92pts The Real Review
Produced from 120-year-old bush vines, this is an exceptionally concentrated wine. Dark fruits are bolstered with red as the wine straddles the line between confection and good black stuff and the wine finishes with super fine tannins. Superb.
    1 x Pasha McLaren Vale Shiraz 2018 (RRP $100.00)
    McLaren Vale, SA
Gold Medal, 96pts Winestate, 95pts Ned Goodwin, 95pts Kim Brebach, 96pts Sam Kim
This is thrilling! It’s old-school but perfectly balanced. ‘Tis packed with uber ripe, suppurating black fruits, dark cherry, compote, notes of furniture polish and spice, black pepper, chocolate, tobacco, and leather. The richness is tamed with good acidity, providing a backbone for all that expressiveness to hang on to and in so doing, show to best effect. Stunning!
    Barossa Valley, SA
Trophy, 6 x Gold Medals, 96pts Wine Matrix, 96pts Sam Kim, 95pts Winestate Magazine
A rich and inviting perfume on the nose, with red fruits, coffee, black fruits, pepper, and clove all in evidence. The palate is rich, big, smooth, and intense and the wine finishes with plush silken tannins. Good already and has the legs to stay out in front for another decade.
    Langhorne Creek, SA
    93pts Kim Brebach
A quality, medium bodied Shiraz sourced from 50 year old Langhorne Creek vines. Juicy red fruits are bolstered by good acidity. The wine finished with vanilla, spindles of oak and fine tannins.
    McLaren Vale, SA
93pts Kim Brebach, 92pts Sam Kim, 92pts James Halliday
From old bush vines planted in 1947. Dry grown, hand pruned and picked, these vines produce exceptionally concentrated fruit. White pepper, kirsch and cherries in a medium bodied yet muscular and fruit intense setting. Plenty of fine tannins to finish. Drink now or cellar for 5-8 years.
    McLaren Vale, SA
    92pts Sam Kim
This one-off Shiraz was produced from 40 year old vines in the famed Seaview sub district of McLaren Vale. It is a full-bodied wine offering up maraschino cherries, mulberries, plum, graphite, cedar and gun smoke. Delicious now and will also cellar well.
    1 x Turkey Flat Rosé 2021 (RRP $25.00)
    Barossa Valley, SA
97pts, Gold Medal and Top Gold Medal - 2021 Royal Adelaide Wine Show, Piper Alderman Trophy for Best Rosé in Show, 94pts Winefront, 95pts Q Wine, 2x Gold Medal, 2x Trophy, Top Gold
A pale pink Rose presenting strawberries, spice, musk, talc and white blossoms. Red fruits are both sweet and tart and complexed by a creamy texture and a persuasive line of acidity and salinity. Lip smacking!
    Langhorne Creek, SA
    93pts Kim Brebach
A beautifully fragrant and mouthwatering nose laden with violets, blackcurrants and dried oregano leads to a voluptuous palate. This is pristine, varietally perfect, medium bodied Cabernet. A joy to drink by itself and with lamb dishes.
    Coonawarra, SA
    Gold Medal, 91pts Sam Kim
A beautifully mid-weight, gold-winning Coonawarra Cabernet. Juicy red fruits, mint and blackcurrants create a mouthwatering effect, bolstered as they are by ever so slightly bolshy acidity – the finish buttoned-down primly with fine tannins.
    Adelaide Hills, SA
    2 x Gold Medals
Almost white in colour, this SB is both fresh and pungent, with plenty of passionfruit, snow pea tendrils, lemony acid and tropical notes. A genuinely joyous expression of Sauv Blanc. Yum!
