2025 Super Loong Lunch Mixed Pack (incl. $50 donation)

We’re back again this year with another stellar line up of wines to help the excellent work done by the Super Loong Lunch team. this year we're here to help the Howard Family, Luke, Jaqui, Chelsea (9) and Isaac (5). Isaac lives with Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS) – a rare congenital neurological condition that affects the brain, skin and eyes. Children with SWS often experience seizures, developmental delays, physical weakness, and are marked by a Port Wine Stain birthmark. Isaac's condition requires constant care, placing emotional and financial strain on the family. Frequent hospitalisations and therapy appointments limit their ability to work and engage in typical family life.

To help as much as we can, here at winedirect.com.au, we will donate $50 for every dozen sold to aid efforts in this year's fundraiser.

This year's packs are stacked with some extraordinary wines, all up there is three packs up for grabs. A premium red pack with over $1000 worth of wine for $285, a white pack with $374 worth of value for $255 and a mixed pack with over $700 worth for $270. Of course, as always, the most important part is the $50 donation for every dozen sold going to the 2025 Super Loong Lunch Fundraising efforts in helping the Howard family.

As is now tradition, we like to make sure we have a couple of showstoppers in the mix every year, lead this year by the 96pt 2021 Yaldara Grand Cuvée Shiraz valued at $250. Playing support act is the Showblock Rosie's Blend Cab Shiraz with all it's refined elegance. Mix in with that wines form Kilikanoon, Dowie Doole, Purple Hands, Jeanneret, Leconfield and more.

To help as much as we can, here at winedirect.com.au, we will donate $50 for every dozen sold to aid efforts in this year's fundraiser.

    Wines In This Pack
    Barossa Valley, SA
96pts Sam Kim, 94pts Kim Brebach
The 2021 Yaldara Grand is a straight Shiraz, owing to the concentration and profundity of the Shiraz fruit from this vintage. Unsurprisingly, this offers more power and concentration than any previous vintage. A massive, deep and complex expression of the best bits of the Barossa Valley. Dark chocolate, liquorice, tobacco leaf, blue and black fruits, cedar, cassis, plums, cherries, spice and plenty of cedary oak and tannins. Incredible.
    Clare Valley, SA
94pts Sam Kim, 94pts Kim Brebach, 93pts Ray Jordan
More textural than your usual Clare Valley Riesling, this 2023 release is bright and limey on the nose and the palate shows citrus flavours of lemon and lime joined by Bickford brown lime, apple and nectarine. It is powerfully packed with fruit and finishes with refreshing acidity.
    McLaren Vale, SA
    95pts Sam Kim
A big, brooding beast, packed with blackberry, dark cherries, dark chocolate, baking spice and plenty of cedar. The generosity and ripeness of fruit is superb. Definitely worth decanting.
    1 x Miss Zilm Pinot Gris 2023 (RRP $32.00)
    Clare Valley, SA
    90pts Wine Pilot, 91pts Q Wine
Superb small batch single vineyard PG from Keeda Zilm. Fruit is sourced entirely from Glen Kelly's vineyard in Sevenhill. Pears, spice, crisp green apple and an underlay of lime zest. Plenty of acid here to provide drive and a lovely mouthwatering aspect. The palate is just beginning to show the texture which develops so appealingly as PG ages.
    McLaren Vale, SA
96pts Kim Brebach, 95pts Wine Pilot, 94pts Sam Kim
Only tiny quantities are made of this wine, which is the product of the finest of Dowie Doole's A-grade Cabernet fruit from each vintage. '21 being an incredible vintage has elevated this even further. The previous vintage picked up 96 points from Kim Brebach who said, "Decades ago, I had the privilege of tasting a group of Barolos and Barbarescos made by Giovanni Gaia. These wines had layers of deep flavour, ranging from smoked meats and old leather to licorice, gravel dust and tar. The Dowie Doole Architect reminded me of those wines because it had some of those characters, even if the expression was more restrained. Give it time, and I think you’ll be richly rewarded. If the price seems steep, keep in mind that a Barbaresco from Gaia will set you back $600." The '21 is better again than the exceptional 2019 vintage, and represents a barrel selection chosen from only A-grade parcels from the old, dry-grown Blewitt Springs vineyard. There's black fruits, licorice, richness, density and layers. A stunning wine that will live for a very long time
    McLaren Vale, SA
93pts Sam Kim, 91pts Huon Hooke
Aromas of stone fruit, a hint of vanilla bean, and ripe honeydew melon. A little salinity here too and some grip on the palate. A delightful Fiano that will absolutely improve with cellaring.
    Clare Valley, SA
95pts Sam Kim, 96pts Kim Brebach
Kilikanoon grow or buy a vast quantity of Clare Grenache - no surprise then that they produce some of the finest Grenache in the Valley. They also arguably produce the region's best Shiraz, 'hello Kilikanoon Revelation and Attunga'. Their GSMs also fare well - the current $40 a bottle Baudinet having picked up multiple trophies. So, we're very excited to introduce the first ever Kilikanoon Meymans GSM, a mid-weight, complex and textural beast which offers comforting blue and black fruit, spice and whisper fine tannins. We love it.
    Yarra Valley, Vic
95pts Sam Kim, 94pts Ken Gargett

This is Hirsch Hill's flagship Chardonnay, estate grown in the Toolangi sub-region of the Yarra Valley. A cracking Chardy offering florals, green apple, spice, hazelnut, stonefruit and more. Plenty of acid here, a creamy palate and judicious use of French oak make this an almost complete expression of cool climate Chardonnay. The only thing that can make it better is time. Decant before drinking or cellar.

    Barossa Valley, SA
Gold - Royal Adelaide Wine Show, 94pts Kim Brebach, 92pts Qwinereviews.com, 3 x Gold Medal

The first GSM released by Purple Hands with previous editions having led with Mataro. From our perspective, also the best Grenache blend they have released to date and one of their very best wines overall. Fantastic fragrance here, along with spice, redcurrant, plum, chocolate, cedar and more. Has a tensile aspect which gives this life and lift in a fashion which very few wines can achieve. Exceptional length and a total joy to drink.

    Mount Benson, SA
    91pts James Halliday
A delicious, crisp, cool climate SB from Mount Benson. Jalapeños, grassiness, and lemon juice here, along with a crisp texture and excellent acidity and length. Maybe a perfect seafood wine - oysters? Ceviche? Steamed white fish with lemongrass and shitake mushrooms. Delicious by itself as an aperitif too.
    Langhorne Creek, SA
95pts Kim Brebach, 93pts Sam Kim
An exceptional, brightly, and intensely fruited medium-bodied Shiraz sourced from 50-year-old Langhorne Creek vines. Bold red and black fruits are bolstered by good acidity. The wine is finished with vanilla, spindles of oak, and fine tannins.
    McLaren Vale and Coonawarra, SA
2 x Gold Medals, 93pts Kim Brebach, 92pts Huon Hooke
A remarkably fresh sparkling white made from a blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir fruit from the Coonawarra. It has a lively, creamy, mousse and a full, supple body. (And yes, much better looking than Abbott in Speedos). Enjoy it now in all its youthful glory as an aperitif, or with shellfish and seafood. Syn(ful) indeed!
