Tim Adams BioTim Adams entered the wine industry as a cellarhand at the noted Clare winery Stanley Wine Company in 1975. In true hands-on style, he worked his way up to Lab Assistant in 1976, and had support from General Manager "Mr Mick" Knappstein to seek further education in the field. Tim enrolled in the Bachelor of Applied Science (Wine Science) at Charles Sturt Uni in Wagga Waggs NSW, and studying by mail, graduated in 1981. By 1982, Tim was appointed winemaker at Stanley.
It was in 1984 that the notion to go solo presented itself in the form of Clare cooper Bill Wray. He had the idea of drafting Tim as partner in a small run of small oak casks and wines, and by 1986 the first wines under the Adams & Wray label were released. By 1988, Tim and partner Pam had taken ownership of the Adams & Wray winery and cellar door, and Tim Adams Wines was in full swing. Tim had left Stanley Wines by then, but maintained a relationship with Mick Knappstein until Mr Mick passed away in 1997.
Today, Tim's skills as a winemaker cover the output of 11 Clare wineries, and varieties from his trademark riesling to tempranillo and mataro. Highly acclaimed, his range scores so well with James Halliday that the winery was awarded a five-star rating in 2011 edition of his Australian Wine Companion.
