2007 Turkey Flat Mourvèdre

Mourvèdre, AKA the unsung hero. Plenty of us have drunk Mourvèdre before, typically hidden away in a blend dominated by Shiraz and Grenache. A handful of Barossa growers are now bottling it separately, and with good reason. Good Barossa Mourvèdre makes a big Shiraz look like a friendly, larrikin boofhead. Clad in black, mean, sinewy and dangerous, this gear needs a few hours in the decanter. Then it’ll monster a big bleeding T-bone without tearing you a new one at the same time. 2009 Koonara Bay of Apostles Pinot Noir

Cherry and a hint of beetroot

Gorgeous and supple, not two words normally associated with apostles or their after hours activities. Nor their assertively angular namesakes dotted along the Great Ocean road. This is a wine that would do well at any kind of Last Supper, offering dark and sour cherry and a hint of beetroot. The palate is soft, with excellent fruit weight and acidity. Tannin is a whisper thin covering, slowly revealing itself as you roll wine around in your mouth. Delicious.

2010 Heirloom Vineyards Adelaide Hills Pinot Noir

A friendly, cuddly, shaggy thing this. Not the quite the taut, spiky fleshy and gaunt typically favoured by pinot fervents. Rather a generous beast loaded with fresh cherry and plum characters, and soft, fuzzy tannins with just a waft of beetroot. Silken and inviting on the palate.

2009 919 Wines Durif

We're big fans of Durif and this edition is magnificent. Satsuma plum, morello cherries and dark chocolate in abundance wrapped up in gloriously soft fine tannins. Like most Durif wines, it is massive, so let it breath or pair it with a nice wooly mammoth steak.

2004 Murray Street Vineyards Grenache
