2009 Ballast Stone Cabernet Sauvignon

When pairing with ribs wear a bib

Ripe and black. Lots of plum and blackstrap goodness here supported by creamy oak. The fruit sweetness is beautifully complexed by cleansing acid and the finish is dry and mouthwatering. Very high on the salivation scale. If pairing with pork ribs we recommend the wearing of bibs, or eating outside. Drink now to 2016.

2010 Gemtree Tatty Road Shiraz

Tatty Road Shiraz is a good quaffer from the Gemtree huggers. Nice ripe, juicy fruits and oak sparingly applied. Good… screwcap

2009 Serafino Goose Island Cabernet Merlot

A ripper for the money, even more so than the Shiraz. Offers ripe black fruits undercut with the assertively angular tannins and fruit of varietal Cabernet. Lip smacking.

2009 Barwang Hilltops Cabernet Sauvignon

While this wine is quite open and delightful right now it should improve with a stint in the dungeon. This is rich and ripe with an accent on black fruits and a soft and creamy mid palate. Tannins are fine and plentiful, but well disguised by the generosity of fruit.

A limited release wine sourced from some of the best vines in the vale. Plenty of expensive wines are sourced from this patch of vines … and it is a ripper, full, chocolaty with superb definition of tannins and fruit both bright and brooding. Screwcap

As ever a classy erudition of cool climate Sheeraz and apricotty Viognier. Plenty of fruit, length and spice, along with wafts of white pepper and other goodies besides. Wrap some salty procuiutto around rockmelon, and smile smugly.

2008 Koonara Angel's Peak Cabernet Sauvignon

Smacks of spearmint and chocolate not normally associated with Coonawarra but seen once in the famous Peppermint Patty from the ‘60s, closest we’ve seen for years, lovely!. … screwcap.

2008 Setanta Cuchulain Shiraz

These wines are all about complexity. Flavours include liquorice, Satsuma plum, blackberries, white pepper and Christmas cake spices. Awesome now, with a good boot of tannin but will improve in the dungeon.

2009 Jacobs Creek 3 Vines Rosé

This is no ordinary rosé. This three-way blend is not an adolescent experiment; rather, it is an holy union that celebrates the complexity of it's parts. One would perhaps expect to see Shiraz and Grenache in this unbridled embrace, but it is the invitation they extended to Sangiovese that really raised the eyebrows. The young and impetuous invitee provides a savoury underpinning, balancing the slightly confected sweetness of the original interlocutors. Settling into a bed of cuddly tannins and spritzed by a generous arc of acidity, this is one to enjoy with breakfast, lunch or dinner. Drink now.

Turkey Flat Shiraz is made in part from some of the oldest living Shiraz vines in the world, dating back to 1847! This is an incredibly concentrated wine, loaded with blackberries, blue berries and Christmas cake all shot through with tarry goodness… brilliant…96/100 from James Halliday.
